A PROPOSAL FOR TEACHING FARM MANAGEMENT AT THE INSTITUTE OF AGRICULTURE AND ANIMAL SCIENCE TRIBHUVAN UNIVERSITY, RAMPUR NEPAL AgEcon
Bajracharya, Sribindu R..
This paper is concerned with farm management teaching needs in Nepal. It is intended to assist the author in the preparation of appropriate teaching materials as he assumes teaching and research responsibilities in the area of farm management when he returns to Tribhuvan University, Institute of Agriculture and Animal Science. It was selected as a research topic because of the need to think through the development needs of Nepal and to evaluate those aspects of farm management education traditionally taught for their contribution to agricultural development in Nepal.

A remarkably variable phreatic amphipod from Mallorca, Rhipidogammarus variicauda n. sp., in which the third uropod can assume the “parviramus” or the “variiramus” condition Naturalis
Stock, Jan H..
A new species of the genus Rhipidogammarus, Rh. variicauda, is described from phreatic fresh waters of two wells in the western part of the isle of Mallorca (Mediterranean). The new species has a highly variable third uropod: about 80% of the specimens possesses a typically “parviramus” appendage, but 20% shows the “variiramus” condition. Apparently, a classification based on the structure of the third uropod should be used with caution.

A REVIEW OF PRICE DATA IN THE MICHIGAN APPLE MARKET AgEcon
Christy, Ralph D..
The quality of agricultural price data has been a growing concern of producers, researchers, and government officials in recent years. The major work done on improving agricultural price data has, of course, taken place within the United States Department of Agriculture. These efforts have not only led to the identification of key problems and issues in price reporting but have also resulted in a deeper investigation into our data and information systems. While an information system theory as such has not been developed, significant contributions have been made in terms of insights gained into the issues, the definitions and the epistemological nature of data systems and information systems. This study will be done in the context of these insights...

A revision of the tribe Naucleeae s.s. (Rubiaceae) Naturalis
Ridsdale, C.E..
A world-wide revision of the tribe Naucleeae with a general discussion of the systematic position and affinities of the tribe and the genera. The generic concepts have been modified and 21 genera are recognized (Ochreinauclea, Ludekia, Diyaminauclea, Khasiaclunea, Adinauclea, Sinoadina, Pertusadina, and Haldina being new), which are placed in three subtribes, Anthocephalinae, Naucleinae, and Adininae, sublrib. now There are keys to the subtribes, genera, and species, followed by descriptions of the Asiatic and Malesian genera. The Asiatic species are described and accompanied by complete synonymy, but the Malesian species are treated in an abbreviated form. Three new species are described: Myrmeconauclea stipulacea, Ludekia borneensis, and Pertusadina...

A schematic model of the evolution of the south atlantic ArchiMer
Le Pichon, Xavier; Melguen, M.; Sibuet, Jean-claude.
A schematic model of the evolution of the South Atlantic ocean is proposed to demonstrate the possibilities offered by the Deep Sea Drilling Project within the framework of Plate Tectonics to reconstruct a logical evolution of the history of the ocean basins and their paleoenvironment. The emphasis is put on the methodology available to reconstruct the ocean crust morphology and its sedimentary cover at all stages throughout the opening of the ocean.Paleobathymetric, deep paleo-water-circulation and paleo-sedimentary - facies maps at five different stages of the opening are presented and discussed. The last type of maps are in great part based on a new paleo - Carbonate Compensation Depth Curve for the South Atlantic which is tentatively proposed here....

A short life history of Prof. Dr. F.P. Jonker Naturalis
Janssen, C.R..
This year Prof. Dr. F.P. Jonker, Frits as he is known among his friends, will retire from the formal academic life at the State University of Utrecht: a long and busy life of 49 years, devoted to teaching, administration, and scientific research. Looking back on all these years, one realises the important contributions that Jonker has made to botanical science in general and to palaeobotany in particular, both in The Netherlands and abroad, as well as the impact he has exerted on his surroundings, culminating in the vigorous activities of the Laboratory of Palaeobotany and Palynology at Utrecht. To describe Jonker’s life history is indeed to describe the history of his laboratory. To understand the significance of Jonker and the character of the “lab”, we...

A simplified 14C method for grazing measurements on natural planktonic populations OMA
Daro, M.H..
The method used consists of adding highly radioactive material (40 µCi/l NaH14CO3) to sea water with its natural concentrations of zoo- and phytoplankton, incubating this water in the light, separating zoo- from phytoplankton after 1h or at the most 2h and measuring the radioactivity of both. Under such conditions, the concentration of the tracer in phytoplankton can be simplified as a linear function of time, and that of the zooplankton as a parabolic function of time. This simplification leads to an overestimation of grazing of at most 2-3%. Comparisons with the Coulter Counter method are given and discussed.

A synopsis of the Malesian species of Polyscias (Araliaceae) Naturalis
Philipson, W.R..
The type species of tie genus Polyscias (P. pinnata J. R. & G. Forst.) is closely related to a small number of Pacific and Indo-Malayan species, several of which have long been in cultivation. This group of species have a distinctive facies but can be defined most readily by the elongated sheathing leaf-base. The genus has usually been extended beyond this group to include other pinnate-leaved members of sub-family Schefflereae in which the pedicel is articulated below the flower. There has been uncertainty whether to restrict the genus to species in which the style arms are free or also to include species with connate styles. In his treatment of the New Guinea species, Harms (Bot. Jahrb. 56,1920: 374—414) does include some species with connate styles...

A taxonomic revision of the peritrich ciliate genus Pyxicola Naturalis
Trueba, Frank J..
The protozoan genus Pyxicola Kent, 1881 (Ciliata, Peritrichida, Vaginicolidae) has been critically revised. It is now considered to include the nominal genera Pachytrocha and Caulicola. An annotated list of the hitherto described nominal species is given. Eight species and two formae are recognized within the genus. A short description of each of these and a key to their identification are given. All recognized species are figured; many illustrations from the literature have been redrawn and brought together to facilitate comparison and to justify the taxonomical decisions which have been taken.
